In the first full trailer for Black Adam, you can almost smell what The Rock’s got cookin’.
Offerng a more extensive look than last fall’s teaser, Official Trailer #1 for Black Adam lays the groundwork for DC’s latest superhero. Or, well, super anti-hero.
Fueled more by vengeance than justice, Black Adam doesn’t hesitate to break a superhero cardinal rule: don’t intentionally kill people. Which is to say that he does. Kill people. Intentionally.
Beyond establishing that, this trailer does the basics of establishing the other key characters and showing off their powers. What it avoids is getting too much into the weeds of the plot. As if that really matters for a blockbuster ride such as this.
It’s worth noting that in the DC Universe, Black Adam is the sworn enemy of Shazam, a hero that has already had one successful movie (starring Zachary Levi) and has a forthcoming sequel which is set for release next year in June 2023. Black Adam will likely serve as an origin story that, in an end credit tease, connects him directly to Shazam.
Joining Dwayne Johnson are Aldis Hodge (One Night In Miami, Straight Outta Compton) as Hawkman, Noah Centineo (Netflix’s To All The Boys I’ve Loved Before) as Atom Smasher, Sarah Shahi (CBS’s Person of Interest) as Adrianna, Marwan Kenzari (Murder on the Orient Express, The Mummy) as Ishmael, Quintessa Swindell (HBO’s Euphoria) as Cyclone, Bodhi Sabongui (ABC’s A Million Little Things) as Amon, and Pierce Brosnan (James Bond, et al) as Dr. Fate.
Directed by Johnson’s Jungle Cruise helmer Jaume Collet-Serra, Black Adam will strike theaters this fall on October 21, 2022.
