In an endless sea of franchise IPs, Walt Disney Animation is embarking on new original adventure.
Appropriately titled Strange World, the first teaser for Disney’s latest animated feature reveals a sci-fi exploration into, well, a strange new world.
The heroes are the Clade family, a team of legendary explorers that are now led — reluctantly — by the oldest son Searcher (voiced by Jake Gyllenhaal), a farmer who’s not interested in taking the same risks as his daredevil father. Their mission? To journey into an uncharted territory of fantastical creatures.
This first look trailer — done in the retro style of early 20th Century movie adventure previews — doesn’t reveal much in terms of plot, but it does showcase the vast and wild inspiration of director Don Hall (Raya and the Last Dragon, Big Hero 6) and his Disney animators.
With additional voice talent yet to be officially announced for this mixed-race family, we can expect to see more revealed about this adventure before it opens this fall.
Strange World will debut exclusively in theaters for the Thanksgiving holiday on November 23, 2022.
