If anyone can break though the franchise box office juggernauts with original high concept movies that fascinate the masses, it’s director Jordan Peele.
The man behind horror-thrillers Get Out and Us is back with his third feature film, Nope.
The first trailer for his latest mystery project has dropped on Super Bowl Sunday, nearly a year after he first teased the world with the movie’s title and one sheet poster.
The debut trailer raises more questions than it answers, but the premise — an apparent alien invasion — is rooted in Peele’s recurring thematic exploration of African-American life (cultural, historic and systemic).
Starring Get Out‘s Daniel Kaluuya and rising star Keke Palmer (Hustlers), the duo plays as a couple that descends from the first-ever African-American ever captured on motion picture film. It’ll be interesting to see how Peele blossoms that obscure but historically-significant seed.
Co-starring Oscar nominee Steven Yeun (Minari), Nope is set to hit theaters this summer on July 22, 2022.
