GRETA (Movie Review)

Rated R
(for some violence, language, and disturbing images)
Released: March 1, 2019
Runtime: 98 minutes
Directed by: Neil Jordan

Starring: Isabelle Huppert, Chloë Grace Moretz, Maika Monroe, Colm Feore, Jeff Hiller, Stephen Rea

My review of Greta, for The Tulsa Voice. This indie thriller from director Neil Jordan (The Crying Game) stars Isabelle Huppert as a sociopathic older woman who stalks young New York waitress Chloë Grace Moretz. Gorgeous filmmaking can’t elevate this laughable genre exercise.

A review excerpt:

“With a premise as basic as a Hollywood scream machine…the forced plot mechanics churn forward with obligatory beats rather than psychological intrigue…occasionally punctuated by silly moments that play like a Saturday Night Live digital short parody of the genre.”

  1. I’ve been a Neil Jordan fan for a long time. He last good couple of movies were ‘Byzantine’ and ‘ondine’. I wouldn’t call them masterpieces but they are tasty genre treats. Indeed, Neil Jordan has had from the get go, an interesting if inconsistent career.
