Nothing like bragging about the new nerd language you invented to woo your lady fair.
Such is the swagger of J.R.R. Tolkien in the opening moments of the new trailer for Tolkien, the upcoming biopic about the legendary author’s young life. Nicholas Hoult plays the writer in a movie that will focus on his scholastic life and World War I service, as well as his romance of Edith Bratt (Lily Collins).
The film, essentially, dramatizes how varoius influences throughout this period served as inspirations for the characters, events, and mythical figures in The Hobbit and The Lord of the Rings.
By my count, those influences will include friends, education, and combat. Whether his Roman Catholicism makes the cut remains to be seen.
Tolkien opens on May 10, 2019.
