INSIDE OUT Writer Joins TANGLED Director For Disney’s GIGANTIC

Disney continues to embrace creative Girl Power.

After the success of the Academy Award-winning instant classic Inside Out (which had, arguably, the best Pixar script ever), Disney has tapped that film’s Oscar-nominated co-writer Meg LeFauve to co-direct Gigantic, an animated adventure that reimagines the “Jack and the Beanstalk” fable.

LeFauve, who’s also busy co-writing Marvel’s female superhero blockbuster Captain Marvel (starring Oscar-winner Brie Larson), will join Tangled helmer Nathan Greno, who was already attached as director. This move comes as a result of LeFauve’s work on the script for Gigantic, in which Jack encounters a female giant. As LeFauve’s input and influence began to expand, it became natural to promote her to a co-director role. A similar dynamic occurred with Frozen when co-writer Jennifer Lee was promoted to co-director of that film with Chris Buck.

As with most recent Disney movies, Gigantic will be a musical. Its songwriters are Frozen collaborators Robert Lopez and Kirsten Anderson-Lopez.

Still in the early stages of development, Gigantic won’t bow for two years. Another Thanksgiving treat from the Mouse House, it opens on November 21, 2018.
