Disney dropping trailer bombs on the first of December.
Within the same hour of the first day of the last month of 2022, Mouse House sister studios Lucasfilm and Marvel released the debut trailers for two of 2023’s biggest tentpoles: Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny (see here) and Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 (see above).
For all the action and wisecracking comedy you’d expect to see from the first GOTG3 trailer, it’s also full of heart. This final volume promises to be an emotional sendoff — and that’s reflective in more ways than one.
A big behind-the-scenes reason: this will be director James Gunn’s last hurrah with the Marvel brand. He recently agreed to take over the DC Extended Universe as its Kevin Feige-mastermind leader, along with producer Peter Safran (Aquaman, Shazam!).
The whole Guardians crew returns for this last galactic ride: Chris Pratt, Zoe Saldana, Dave Bautista, Karen Gillan, Pom Klementieff, Elizabeth Debicki, Sean Gunn, and the voices of Bradley Cooper and Vin Diesel.
Joining them is Will Poulter in his debut as the golden Marvel superhero Warlock. Chukwudi Iwuji will co-star as High Evolutionary, the story’s main super-villain. He is an ultra-intelligent being who created Cooper’s Rocket Racoon. Also listed in the cast are Maria Bakalova, and Sylvester Stallone.
Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 is set to kick off the summer movie season on May 5, 2023.
