Christian Bale and Margot Robbie Lead True Comic-Thriller AMSTERDAM (VIDEO/IMAGES)

Christian Bale, Margot Robbie and John David Washington lead the all-star cast of Oscar-nominated director David O. Russell’s AMSTERDAM. It opens November 2022.

After a six-year hiatus with his first film since 2015’s Joy, writer / director David O. Russell is back with what he does best: delivering an Awards Season contender packed with an all-star cast.

The multi-Academy Award nominee of movies such as American Hustle and Silver Linings Playbook, Russell reteams with frequent collaborator Christian Bale (American Hustle and Bale’s Oscar-winning role in The Fighter) for a 1930s set crime caper with a dark comic twist, all based on a true story.

Joining Bale in the lead roles are Margot Robbie (who steps into the role usually reserved for Jennifer Lawrence in Russell’s films) and John David Washington (who replaced Michael B. Jordan after he had to drop out due to scheduling conflicts).

Together, they play a trio who (according to the official synopsis) “witness a murder, become suspects themselves, and uncover one of the most outrageous plots in American history.”

Also in the deep ensemble are Robert De Niro (another Russell regular), Zoe Saldaña, Chris Rock, Anya Taylor-Joy, Rami Malek, Mike Myers, Michael Shannon, Timothy Olyphant, Andrea Riseborough, Alessandro Nivola, Matthias Schoenaerts, and pop star Taylor Swift.

Positioning itself for a holiday and possible Oscar run, Amsterdam opens in theaters on November 4, 2022.
