“Music of SOUL” Featurette Dives Into The Sound Of Pixar’s Latest (VIDEO)

Oscar-winners Trent Reznor and Atticus Ross team with late night band leader John Baptiste to make the music of SOUL. It debuts Christmas Day on Disney Plus.

Pixar’s new movie Soul lives in two realms, our natural world and the spirit world beyond. Perhaps fittingly, two different styles of music were used to give these realms their musical souls, each unique and distinct, and produced by two different composers.

A new Pixar featurette — titled “Music of Soul” — explores those two paths.

One is by John Baptiste (Stephen Colbert‘s band leader), who wrote and performed the jazz compositions heard the the real world. The other is from the Oscar-winning team of Trent Reznor and Atticus Ross (The Social Network), who have designed a spiritual electronica for the afterlife.

It was a bit of a risky approach to take for co-directors Pete Docter and Kemp Powers, but as you’ll see in the video above (and the final film) it works to beautiful perfection.

Starring the voices of Jamie Foxx and Tina Fey, Soul debuts exclusively on Disney Plus, Christmas Day 2020.
