Hercule Poirot is back, now navigating steamy Egyptian waters rather than chilly Euro-train transit.
Following the global success of 2017’s Murder on the Orient Express, actor/director Kenneth Branagh reprises his turn as Agatha Christie‘s beloved Belgian sleuth (complete with the funky accent and well-endowed ‘stache) in Death on the Nile, another classic Poirot mystery that was teased at the end of Express.
The stars may not be quite as studded this time around but, even so, the suspects are played by an ensemble of mostly-impressive talents including Gal Gadot, Armie Hammer, Annette Bening, Letitia Wright, Ali Fazal, Sophie Okonedo, Tom Bateman, Emma Mackey, Dawn French, Rose Leslie, Jennifer Saunders and Russell Brand.
By the looks of this first trailer, the setting looks to capture the kind of lush period elegance that make Christie mysteries fun escapist fare.
Not spooked by Coronavirus shutdowns, Death on the Nile remains scheduled to open exclusively in theaters on October 23, 2020. (UPDATE: it will now open on December 18, 2020.)
