The new Batsuit is here, and it’s…sorta kinda basically what you’d expect.
Landing somewhere between Christian Bale‘s and Ben Affleck‘s costumes, writer / director Matt Reeves is sticking with the black-and-gray motif for Robert Pattinson‘s cape and cowl in the upcoming The Batman. Clearly an engineered suit of armor, it appears to be a bit sleeker than recent designs, especially in the thin, tight mask.
Honestly, it looks like a dead-ringer for Daredevil, especially given how the footage is drenched in red light and the tight close-up never reveals the mask’s two horns — safely assuming they’re there, of course.
I’d been holding out hope that Reeves would go full old-school color with a blue / gray / yellow mix, especially given his commitment to returning to the Dark Knight’s detective roots, but apparently color of any kind just isn’t cool enough. I guess.
(UPDATE: Apparently, this Batsuit has some serious Arkham Knight vibes, a design from a popular Batman video game…which makes it even less interesting, although it’s certain to an effective bit of fan service. See images in the gallery below.)
One particularly intriguing tease: the music heard in this camera test is the first cue released from the actual score, composed by Oscar-winner Michael Giacchino (a favorite of Pixar and J. J. Abrams who Reeves collaborated with on his recent Planet of the Apes films).
Co-starring Zoe Kravitz as Selina Kyle/Catwoman, Jeffrey Wright as James Gordon, Paul Dano as Edward Nashton/Riddler, Andy Serkis as Alfred Pennyworth, Colin Farrell as Oswald Cobblepot/Penguin, John Turturro as Carmine Falcone, and Peter Sarsgaard as Gotham D.A. Gil Colson, The Batman begins filming this year and will hit screens next summer on June 25, 2021.
