It’s Minions. It’s the 70s. And it’s a 12-year-old Gru. This basically sells itself, but here’s the first trailer anyway.
Minions: The Rise of Gru is the origin story of how an aspirational little boy became the supervillain he always dreamed of being. Spurned by an evil super-group called Vicious 6, little Gru (once again voiced by Steve Carell, via some pitch-shifting) makes some bold moves to reach his goal of supervillainy — with the help of those yellow gibberish-speaking Minions, of course. Zany cartoon comedy ensues.
Co-starring the voices of Taraji P. Henson, Michelle Yeoh, RZA, Jean-Claude Van Damme, Lucy Lawless, Dolph Lundgren, Danny Trejo, Russell Brand, with Julie Andrews and Alan Arkin, Minions: The Rise of Gru will be the big opener for the Independence Day holiday when it hits screens this summer on July 3, 2020.
