For anyone already cobbling together their must-see list for the upcoming Awards Season, a slot has to be made for Pain And Glory, the Spanish-language film from writer/director Pedro Almodóvar.
The legendary auteur reunites with Antonio Banderas (whose collaborations first began back in the late 1980s) in a film that is blatantly semi-autobiographical. Banderas plays Salvador Mallo, an aging director who begins to look back and reflect on his life choices.
The performance garnered Banderas the Best Actor prize at this summer’s Cannes Film Festival, putting him on the short list for Oscar buzz chatter.
Co-starring Penélope Cruz, Pain And Glory begins its possible Academy Award season run in limited release on October 4, 2019.
