Leaving the controversies of the Game of Thrones finale far behind (along with her own personal frustrations about it — which I share!), Emilia Clarke will be back on the big screen this holiday season in Last Christmas.
What may first appear on the surface as a glorified Hallmark Channel seasonal entry suddenly gets a lot more interesting when you see who’s behind it: Emma Thompson wrote the screenplay (with inspiration from the Wham! song of the same name) and it’s directed by Paul Feig (Bridesmaids, the all-female Ghostbusters). Oh, and Clarke’s love interest is Crazy Rich Asians breakout star Henry Golding.
An Emma Thompson scripted Christmas rom com is intriguing enough, but Feig’s approach to it — a holiday-set London travelogue — makes it even more so. Packing it with all of his favorite locations and hotspots from Britain’s capitol, Feig told Entertainment Weekly, “I finally get to make the love letter to London I’ve always wanted to make.”
And the bonus kicker? Thompson also co-stars in the film, along with Michelle Yeoh and Patti LuPone!
Last Christmas hits theaters on November 8, 2019.
