Starring: Jessie Buckley, Julie Walters, Sophie Okonedo

My review of Wild Rose, for The Tulsa Voice. Newcomer Jessie Buckley stars in an absolute breakout performance in the title role; she could be a country star tomorrow if she wanted to be.

And the story (from director Tom Harper and screenwriter Nicole Taylor) “never flinches in its depiction of a self-destructive singer, yet it has us rooting for her every step of the way.” The result is a satisfying emotional gauntlet.

A review excerpt:

“Infusing a “follow your dreams” template with uncompromising realism, Wild Rose is equal parts inspirational journey and cautionary tale…an underdog story where the biggest odds stacked against Rose are the one’s she’s stacked against herself.”
