Spidey’s got a new mentor.
On the day that Avengers: Endgame finally launches in the U.S., Marvel gave new photos of Spider-Man: Far From Home to Entertainment Weekly. It will be the first film from the post-Avengers MCU.
Highlighted is Mysterio, played by Jake Gyllenhaal. A famous Marvel supervillian, Mysterio fittingly lives up to his name in the new Spider-Man Euro-adventure, as his allegiences and intentions are much more nebulous, or conflicted.
In fact, director Jon Watts says of Mysterio’s relationship to Peter Parker: “If Tony Stark was sort of the mentor in the previous films, we thought it would be interesting to play Mysterio as almost like the cool uncle.”
Samuel L. Jackson‘s Nick Fury, Colbie Smulders‘ sidekick agent Maria Hall, and Parker love interest Michelle Jones (a.k.a. MJ, get it?) played by Zendaya are also featured in the photos.
Spider-Man: Far From Home opens this summer on July 6, 2019.
