An inevitable biopic — arguably even long overdue — the movie about Middle Earth creator J.R.R. Tolkien has finally be made.
The film’s first teaser trailer reveals…pretty much what you’d expect, if not exactly, as it juxtaposes real-life events (from serving in WWI to his time as a student at Oxford) against visions of the worlds he’d eventually create, and the evils within them.
Plus, if every friend in his collegiate “fellowship” doesn’t strike an uncanny resemblance to various hobbitses, I’ll be stunned.
Nevertheless, it looks handsomely crafted, and stars Nicholas Hoult and Lily Collins are well-cast, so the quality of craft will hopefully make up for various and sundry forumula conventions.
Directed by Dome Karukoski and co-starring Colm Meaney and Derek Jacobi, Tolkien opens on May 10, 2019.
