The Marvel Cinematic Universe finally has its wonder woman.
After being teased in the final end credit bonus of Avengers: Infinity War, we now have the first trailer and photos from Marvel Studios’ Captain Marvel, starring Academy Award winner Brie Larson (Room) in the title role.
Set way back in the 1990s, the first female-led Marvel movie will not be a traditional origin story. It will begin with Carol Danvers (Larson) – a.k.a. Captain Marvel – in complete control of her powers, although the story will weave in revealing flashbacks. It will also include young versions of Nick Fury and Phil Coulson, played by Samuel L. Jackson and Clark Gregg (respectively) by way of de-aging digital technology.
Directed by Anna Boden and Ryan Fleck (Half Nelson) and co-starring Jude Law, Lee Pace, Djimon Hounsou Gemma Chan, Lashana Lynch, Algenis Perez Soto, Rune Temte, and McKenna Grace, Captain Marvel opens next spring on March 8, 2019, likely cliffhanging with a tie-in to the Avengers: Infinity War sequel that will open just two months later.
