New GRINCH Trailer: Your Heart’s An Empty Hole (VIDEO/POSTER)

Another Grinch preview that’s leaving me, well, a little grinchy.

The second, more revealing trailer for the new feature length animated take on Dr. Seuss‘s holiday favorite The Grinch triggers the same mixed feeling as the first: not hating it, but not particularly anticipating it either.

As before, this new preview plays up the kid-friendly comedy and slapstick — now with even more looks at Whoville’s eye-popping holiday glitz — but surprisingly it avoids any ounce of sentiment, which is crucial for this American Christmas classic.

It comes from Illumination Studios, the team behind the wildly successful Despicable Me Minions franchise, so they have a bead on what sells. The open question here, however, is if they can create something that emotionally resonates, and lasts.

Starring the voice of Benedict Cumberbatch in the title role, The Grinch opens on November 9, 2018.
