And we have liftoff.
On the heels of its world premiere at the Venice Film Festival, First Man debuts its (likely) final trailer before its October release. It’s the story of Neil Armstrong and the Apollo 11 mission to the moon, that historic moment in human history that occurred nearly fifty years ago.
It’s also the follow-up for the youngest Best Director Academy Award winner in history, Damien Chazelle, and he brings his La La Land lead Ryan Gosling along for the title role.
The family drama looks like it’ll have some pretty familiar beats, and the mission build up doesn’t appear to be breaking any new ground from past classics like Apollo 13 and The Right Stuff, but familiarity may be a moot point if this director/actor collaboration (who are also co-producing) nails another experience of pure cinema out of the park.
Co-starring Claire Foy, Jason Clarke, Kyle Chandler, Patrick Fugit, Ciaran Hinds, Ethan Embry, Shea Whigham, Corey Stoll, and Pablo Schreiber, First Man will open wide on October 12, 2018.
