Well that gave me some feels.
Disney keeps the live-action adaptations coming with Dumbo, the remake of the 1941 animated classic. This one is directed by Tim Burton, and what’s most striking about it – aside from the well-crafted visuals – is how sentimental it is.
With Burton you expect something more dark, or at least quirky. While this does appear to lean into themes about being a weird, strange outcast (a Burton staple), this looks like it may replace darkness with warmth, and being laughed at with being marveled.
Chances are it’ll be a mix of all those things in a deeply heartfelt way – just like they are in this first teaser trailer.
Starring Colin Farrell, Eva Green, Michael Keaton, Danny DeVito (hey, it’s a Batman / Penguin reunion!), plus newcomers Nico Parker and Finley Hobbins, Dumbo opens next spring on March 29, 2019.
