You’ll never watch a movie the same way again, because you’ll finally realize just how much the sound is affecting what you see and how you see it.
That’s the result of this brilliant video essay by Evan Puschak, a.k.a. The Nerdwriter. He takes a scene from Steven Spielberg‘s Munich and breaks down exactly how sound (or the absence of it) can be used to make you focus exactly on what the director wants you to focus on, and feel.
This is as good a primer as you’ll see about how sound is more than just a “tech” aspect of filmmaking; it’s a true art unto itself.
