There’s something perfect, even poetic, about having the composer from Back To The Future write the music for Ready Player One, even beyond the fact that a DeLorean is a primary vehicle in the film’s OASIS VR world.
Steven Spielberg‘s regular composer John Williams was not available this time around; his scoring plate was already full with Star Wars: The Last Jedi and Spielberg’s The Post. Stepping in to sub for him is Alan Silvestri, the go-to guy for longtime Spielberg friend and occasional collaborator Robert Zemeckis (Forrest Gump, Who Framed Roger Rabbit?). Silvestri’s most known for his rousing work in the Zemeckis directed / Spielberg produced Back To The Future, which wouldn’t be a half-bad title for the nostalgia-stacked sci-fi of Ready Player One.
Embedded above is the first cue that’s been released from that score, simply called “Main Title”. While it’s not nearly as iconic as the fanfare that trumpeted Marty McFly’s adventures, it has a perfect throwback blend of action and sentiment that defined Spielberg’s Amblin movie slate of the 1980s.
In addition, below is the full track for the cover of “Pure Imagination”, by Ghostwriter Music, that has powered the most recent trailers for the upcoming blockbuster.
Ready Player One opens on March 29, 2018.
