Is Pixar getting any kickback for their patented story construct? Okay, of course not, but watching this first trailer for The Emoji Movie one can’t help but draw parallels to Pixar’s Toy Story, Monsters, Inc., and others. Yet while this doesn’t appear to be breaking any new ground, it does show the potential to be a perfectly enjoyable family movie with a lot of bright appealing visuals.
From Sony Pictures Animation (makers of the Cloudy Meatballs and Hotel Transylvania movies, plus the recently underrated Smurfs: The Lost Village), it stars the voices of T.J. Miller (HBO’s Silicon Valley), Maya Rudolph, James Corden, Ilana Glazer, Sofia Vergara, Steven Wright, Jennifer Coolidge, Jake T. Austin, and Patrick Stewart (as Poop).
The Emoji Movie opens everywhere this summer on July 28, 2017.
