Well hello, what have we here?
With the coolest announcement in the galaxy, Lucasfilm and directors Phil Lord and Christopher Miller confirmed that they’ve found their Lando for the upcoming Young Han Solo Movie. It’s Donald Glover, a geek fan favorite who rose to fame on NBC’s Community before taking off as a stand-up comic and creative powerhouse of his own.
Following a praised small turn in 2015’s The Martian, being cast in Spider-Man: Homecoming, and now the critically-acclaimed FX series Atlanta, Glover is quickly becoming the new It Guy – and nobody’s complaining. His style should mesh well with the comedic slant that Lord and Miller are skewing toward for the Young Han Solo project, one that was reflected in their official statement about the casting of Glover:
- “We’re so lucky to have an artist as talented as Donald join us,” said Lord and Miller. “These are big shoes to fill, and an even bigger cape, and this one fits him perfectly, which will save us money on alterations. Also, we’d like to publicly apologize to Donald for ruining Comic-Con for him forever.”
The still-untitled Young Han Solo Movie – starring Alden Ehrenreich as Han Solo – is set to open in May 2018.
