Official Trailer For Spielberg’s THE BFG Debuts (VIDEO)

And now we can see that big friendly giant for the first time.

After an initial teaser that only showed the titular hand (and figure in shadow), this first official trailer for The BFG starts to flesh out the narrative of Roald Dahl‘s children’s story (based on his book), and reveals the motion-capture animated giant in his full form – and voice.

We can see clearly that his face specifically resembles the actor who plays him, recent Academy Award winning Supporting Actor Mark Rylance. It’s arguably the closest facsimile of actor to animation in mo-cap history. It’s also the second consecutive collaboration for him and director Steven Spielberg, who guided Rylance to that Oscar for his turn in Bridge Of Spies.

Adapted by the late screenwriter Melissa Matheson (who also wrote no less than Spielberg’s E.T.: The Extra-Terrestial), The BFG is scheduled to debut in May at France’s Cannes Film Festival, and will open in theaters worldwide this summer on July 1, 2016.
