(UPDATED with final – and increased – figures)

Like a Starkiller, Star Wars: The Force Awakens once again obliterated its box office competition into complete nothingness with an $90.2 million single New Year’s Weekend shot. That sets a new standard for third weekend grosses, passing Avatar‘s previous take of $68.5 million.

That now brings Episode VII‘s domestic haul to $742.2 million, a total gross that’s just $18 million short of Avatar‘s All-Time Record $760.4 million – a 6-year-old mark that will be passed sometime this week, possibly in two days or less.

In case you’re curious, here’s what the next 10 movies in 2016’s first weekend also looked like:

  • 2. Daddy’s Home – $11.5 million ($76.1 million total)
  • 3. The Hateful Eight – $6.5 million ($19.7 million total)
  • 4. Sisters – $4.7 million ($53.8 million total)
