Spielberg returns to childhood and magic.
After a late career focus on adult and historical dramas, director Steven Spielberg‘s next film will be an adaptation of the Roald Dahl children’s book The BFG (which stands for Big Friendly Giant). As if that creative combo wasn’t intriguing enough, this adaptation was written by the now-late screenwriter Melissa Matheson whose previous collaboration with Spielberg was none other than E.T.: The Extra-Terrestrial. His 29th feature, this will also serve as Spielbeg’s first movie with a young girl as the lead.
The BFG opens next summer on July 1, 2016.
