First SHAZAM 2 Trailer Drops At Comic-Con (VIDEO)

Zachary Levi returns as the title superhero in the first trailer for SHAZAM! FURY OF THE GODS. Helen Mirren joins him as the villain Hespera.

It’s the superhero movie we need right now…even if we have to wait until the end of the year to see it.

The first trailer for Shazam! Fury of the Gods debuted at Comic-Con, the massive pop culture convention that finally returned after a two-year COVID break. Fury of the Gods is the sequel to the surprise 2019 hit Shazam! that starred Zachary Levi in the lead role, a superhero alter ego of teenager Billy Batson (Asher Angel).

Putting a welcome comedic spin on the DCEU while also embracing an old school 80s Amblin type of vibe, Shazam! ended with a great tease for what’s to come. Well, now it’s almost here, and this trailer is a funny, action-packed look at what’s in store.

Helmed by returning director David F. Sandberg, Fury of the Gods introduces Helen Mirren as the villain Hespera and her sidekick Kalypso, played by Lucy Liu.  Jack Dylan Grazer returns as Billy’s best friend Freddy, and joining them as Shazam’s heroic team is Adam Brody and Rachel Zegler, to name a few.

Like so many films shot in the wake of the pandemic, Shazam! Fury of the Gods had to shift its schedule a few times, but now it’s finally set for the holiday season. It’ll strike theaters on December 21, 2022.
