If Tom Cruise‘s Maverick solidified the comeback of movie theaters, George and Julia’s latest collaboration hopes to cement the comeback of the Rom Com.
Ticket to Paradise reteams George Clooney and Julia Roberts (the duo that sparked comic chemistry in the Oceans Trilogy) as bickering execs who reluctantly unite to keep their daughter from rushing into marriage and repeating their mistakes. It’d be easy to imagine a version of this starring Cary Grant and Katherine Hepburn back in the day.
Directed and co-written by Ol Parker (Mamma Mia! Here We Go Again and writer of the Best Exotic Marigold Hotel movies), Ticket to Paradise looks to capture the kind of witty rapid-fire bitter banter that has fueled many “oil and water” romantic comedies since the genre’s earliest entries.
Kaitlyn Dever (Dear Evan Hansen, Booksmart) co-stars as the lovestruck daughter, French-Indonesian actor Maxime Bouttier as her beau, and Billie Lourd (the Star Wars sequels) as Dever’s bestie.
Primed for a fall release, Ticket to Paradise will hit theaters on October 21, 2022.
