Pixar has long dreamed of making the movie that inspired the Buzz Lightyear toy in the Toy Story saga.

Now, that movie is almost here.

Lightyear is a full-on sci-fi spectacle in its own right (albeit still animated) that is completely separate from the world of Toy Story, Woody and the whole gang. It’s the origin story of the iconic space ranger, now voiced by former Captain America Chris Evans rather than Toy Story star Tim Allen.

As this new trailer reveals, Lightyear is an action-adventure that takes Buzz on a journey through space and time. Along the way, he’ll face his ultimate foe: the evil Emperor Zurg (voiced by James Brolin).

Joining Evans in the cast is Keke Palmer, Uzo Aduba, Taika Waititi, Peter Sohn, Isiah Whitlock Jr., Dale Soules, and Efren Ramirez.

From director Angus MacLane (Finding Dory) and co-written by MacLane and Jason Headley (Pixar’s Onward), Lightyear will launch exclusively in theaters this summer on June 17, 2022.
