By Odin’s beard, we have a Thor 4 teaser!
With less than 90 days to go before the movie’s full global launch, the first look at Thor: Love and Thunder has finally arrived…and it’s pretty much what you’re expecting.
Embracing the comic silliness that was introduced in Thor: Ragnarok, returning director Taika Waititi doubles down on that zany sensibility in a story about Thor trying to find himself in a post-Thanos universe.
In other words, this looks to be what we’ve all been anticipating: Chris Hemsworth‘s exit from the franchise as he passes the hammer off to Natalie Portman‘s Jane Foster – which we get a glimpse of at teaser’s end.
This also looks to be a defining moment for Asgard — or, as it’s now called, New Asgard, a place that has apparently become too domesticated for its own good.
And if I’m reading the teaser right, this will all be done without Thor’s new Guardians comrades. Yes, they’re here, but it seems they’ll make a brief appearance before they’re sent off to do more superhero-ing while Thor stays behind to live his best life (whatever that ends up being).
Co-starring Tessa Thompson, Taika Waititi, Sean Gunn, Sam Neill, Russell Crowe as Zeus (who’s only seen from behind here) and Christian Bale as the central villain Gorr the God Butcher (who’s completely absent from this first look), Thor: Love and Thunder opens exclusively in theaters this summer on July 8, 2022.
