It’s back to the Wizarding World we go in the first trailer for Fantastic Beasts: The Secrets of Dumbledore, the third film in the Harry Potter prequel series.
It will be a deep dive into Albus Dumbledore’s most consequential turning point as he faces foes Gellert Grindelwald and Credence Barebone (whose shocking true identity was revealed at the end of the previous Fantastic movie, The Crimes of Grindelwald).
Young Dumbledore is once again played by Jude Law, as is Credence by Ezra Miller, but Mads Mikkelsen takes over as Grindelwald in the wake of Johnny Depp being unjustly fired from the role after he fell victim to the Twitter-rush of cancel culture. Even so, Mikkelsen looks as formidable as you’d expect; plus, the filmmakers have thankfully changed Grindelwald’s spiked bleached hair, too, to something more era-appropriate than that gaudy punk rock pompadour.
Eddie Redmayne also returns as Newt Scamander, as do Dan Folger (as Jacob Kowalski), Alison Sudol (as Queenie Goldstein), Callum Turner (as Theseus Scamander), Katherine Waterston (as Tina Goldstein), and William Nadylam (as Yusef Kama).
Newcomers Jessica Williams and Richard Coyle join the cast, respectively, as Eulalie Hicks (a professor from another Wizarding school) and Albus’s brother Aberforth Dumbledore.
Directed by David Yates — who returns for his seventh consecutive Potter film — Fantastic Beasts: The Secrets of Dumbledore opens next spring on April 15, 2022.
