They may not be afraid of no ghosts, but Sony sure is afraid of showing us actual images of the original Ghostbusters.
Well, okay, maybe not afraid, but they’re being playfully coy about showing us any actual footage of Bill Murray, Dan Aykroyd, and Ernie Hudson in their return to the Ghostbuster franchise in this long-awaited sequel, Ghostbusters: Afterlife.
In the previous trailer, Aykroyd’s voice as Dr. Raymond Stantz was briefly heard. Now, in this last and final trailer before the film’s release, Stantz can be heard again, this time reciting from the Book of Revelation (a pull-quote from the first Ghostbusters).
Better yet: there’s a new line delivered by Dr. Peter Venkman himself (with Bill Murray’s playful cocksure schmooze) but still no actual shots of their faces. For that, you’ll just have to wait until the movie opens (or, at least, take a look at these gray-haired toy action figures).
As far as the rest of the trailer goes, we also get our best look yet at the return of the Gozer beast. It looks like the perfect kind of update: better fluidity via modern visual effects but still very recognizable and consistent with the stop-motion model from nearly 40 years ago.
Directed by Jason Reitman (son of original director Ivan Reitman) and co-starring Paul Rudd, Carrie Coon, Finn Wolfhard, Mckenna Grace, Celeste O’Connor, Logan Kim, Tracy Letts, Annie Potts and Sigourney Weaver, Ghostbusters: Afterlife finally materializes into movie theaters on November 19, 2021.
