New SPENCER Trailer Showcases Kristen Stewart’s Diana (VIDEO/IMAGES)

Following universal praise on the fall film festival circuit, SPENCER — starring Kristen Stewart as Princess Diana — opens in theaters November 2021.

Talk about a transformation.

In the latest trailer for Spencer, the new Princess Diana biopic that dramatizes the key Christmas holiday where her marriage with Prince Charles became broken for good, Kristen Stewart shows why she’s considered the front-runner for the Best Actress Academy Award. It’s a stunning facsimile that transcends impersonation and mimicry to become a full-blown reincarnation.

The ambitious yet intimate portrait comes from director Pablo Larrain, who did something similar to mesmerizing effect for Jackie Kennedy in Jackie (for which Natalie Portman received a well-deserved Oscar nomination). Emphasizing that this is a portrait rather than an historical document, the marketing from distributor NEON frames the film as “As fable from director Pablo Larraín.”

Prince Charles and Queen Elizabeth II are portrayed by Brit stalwarts Jack Farthing (Poldark) and Stella Gonet (Nicholas Nickleby), while key confidantes are portrayed by actors more familiar to American audiences like Sally Hawkins and Timothy Spall. Emma Darwell-Smith also appears in the vital role of Camilla Parker Bowles, with whom Charles had an ongoing affair and eventually married following Diana’s death.

Sure to be a major player all throughout the Awards Season, Spencer — written by Steven Knight (Peaky Blinders) — opens in theaters on November 5, 2021.
