New DUNE Trailer Is A Mind Killer (VIDEO/IMAGES)

Timothée Chalamet leads an all-star cast in DUNE, Warner Bros.’ biggest and most anticipated gamble of the year.

Will this version of Dune finally be the Chosen One? The latest trailer for the sci-fi epic holds a lot of promise that it will be.

Having played exclusively for two days in IMAX theaters, the new preview is now online, offering the longest look yet at director Denis Villeneuve‘s vision of Frank Herbert‘s seminal novel.

It’s a singular, unified vision to be sure, and seems consistent with the signature aesthetic style from the director of Arrival, the acclaimed philosophical sci-fi stunner from 2016. Its only drawback for me is how the visuals can be too murky at times, a problem compounded by being on a digital source rather than film stock.

With an impressive cast led by Timothée Chalamet as Paul Atreides, Dune also boasts an ensemble that includes Zendaya as Chani, Oscar Isaac as Duke Leto Atreides, Rebecca Ferguson as Lady Jessica, Josh Brolin as Gurney Halleck, Stellan Skarsgård as Baron Vladimir Harkonnen, Dave Bautista as Glossu ‘Beast’ Rabban, Charlotte Rampling as Gaius Helen Mohiam, Jason Momoa as Duncan Idaho, and Javier Bardem as Stilgar (whom we only catch a short glimpse of in the trailer, above).

This version of Dune will only dramatize the first half of the sprawling saga (reportedly, the on-screen title for this could be Dune: Part I), with the second half planned to be shot but not yet officially greenlit by Warner Bros. studios.

Dune‘s world premiere will take place September 3 at the Venice Film Festival, and then play again later that month at the Toronto Film Festival.

Currently, the highly-anticipated tentpole is scheduled for a hybrid launch in theaters and on streamer HBO Max when it opens this fall on October 22, 2021.
