¡Encanto es muy festivo, vibrante y lleno de vida!
Energy, joy and music permeate the first teaser trailer for Encanto, the 60th animated feature film from Walt Disney Studios.
Set in the enchanted mountains of Colombia, Encanto (Spanish for “charm”) is the story of a magical family named the Madrigals. Every person in the family has unique powers — all except one: Mirabel, a young woman so normal that her one specialty is not being special.
While the theme of this can be seen coming from a mile away (i.e. we’re all special and unique and have value), the setting feels fresh and the palette vibrant, one that joyously celebrates Latino culture, all set to original songs written by Hamilton and In The Heights Tony-winner Lin-Manuel Miranda. We only get a small taste of the tunes here, unfortunately, as no clips showcase the characters singing.
Stephanie Beatriz (In the Heights, Brooklyn Nine-Nine) stars as the voice of Mirabel, alongside co-stars Wilmer Valderrama and Diane Guerrero.
From Academy Award winning co-director Byron Howard (Zootopia), Jared Bush (writer of Zootopia and Moana) and first-timer Charise Castro Smith, Encanto opens in theaters this Thanksgiving on November 24, 2021.
