A Quiet Place Part II just made a loud statement.
After having been bumped from Spring to Fall just six weeks ago, Paramount Pictures has now pulled the horror-thriller back to early summer. A Quiet Place Part II will now open on May 28, 2021. It will own the Memorial Day weekend newly vacated by F9, which was just delayed to June 25.
Directed by John Krasinski, the sequel reunites Emily Blunt, Millicent Simmonds, and Noah Jupe, and adds Cillian Murphy.
The move is significant for two reasons:
One, it shows a growing confidence in what the theatrical landscape may look like by the summer movie season.
Two — and perhaps more importantly — this comes after the announcement by Paramount that they will begin to release major theatrical titles onto Paramount Plus just 45 days after their theatrical debuts. That means the new streamer will have one of the most anticipated sequels of the year in its library by mid-July.
This move creates a ripple-shift for Paramount as well. Its Mark Wahlberg action-thriller Infinite had been scheduled for May 28. It will now open on Sept. 24, 2021.
