It’s the circle of life, Eddie Murphy style.
Prince Akeem is back but now he’s the king, and he has a Simba back in America that he’s just learning about for the first time. That’s the premise for Coming 2 America, the long-awaited sequel to the “To” from way back in 1988.
Produced by Paramount Pictures (the studio behind the original), it was passed on to Amazon Prime in a post-pandemic selloff.
Arsenio Hall also returns as Semmi, who remains Akeem’s trusty aid, and most of the key original cast members return with him — as do all of the classic characters that Eddie and Arsenio so memorably brought to life.
There are new additions, too, including Wesley Snipes, Tracy Morgan, Leslie Jones, Kiki Lane, and Jermaine Fowler as Akeem’s son from Queens, Lavelle.
Directed by Dolemite Is My Name helmer Craig Brewer (whose musical attitude can be heard in the trailer), Coming 2 America will debut exclusively on Amazon Prime on March 5, 2021.
