Anthony Hopkins Makes Case For Second Oscar In THE FATHER Trailer (VIDEO/IMAGES)

The former Best Actor winner could be a favorite to win another Academy Award in this acclaimed dementia drama.

Anthony Hopkins may be remembered at Oscar time for being so believably forgetful.

He stars in The Father, the new prestige drama about an 80-year-old men who is succumbing to dementia.

The film comes from celebrated French playwright Florian Zeller; he makes his film directing debut here, from an adaptation of his play (with Oscar-winning co-writer Christopher Hampton, Dangerous Liaisons).

Hopkins is joined by fellow Academy Award winner Olivia Colman (The Favourite) who plays his daughter, a woman grieving at her wits end on how to help her father live through his last perilous phase of life.

Acclaimed on the 2020 film festival circuit, the movie’s two stars are certain to contend for accolades all throughout the awards season; the film and it’s writer/director may, too.

Co-starring Olivia Williams, Imogen Poots, Rufus Sewell, Mark Gatiss, and Ayesha Dharker, The Father opens in theaters on December 18, 2020.
