Spike Lee‘s Do The Right Thing isn’t just relevant, it’s prescient.
In the 90-second short 3 Brothers that Lee tweeted out in the wake of the George Floyd killing (see below), Lee draws a striking, disturbing parallel between Floyd and Eric Garner — two innocent African-American victims who lost their lives to police brutality — and Radio Raheem, a central figure in Lee’s 1989 film.
Sadly, what Lee portrayed over thirty years ago remains a tragic reality today, igniting the turmoil we find ourselves in now.
