Tom Hanks is back in World War II, but this time he’ll be fighting by sea rather than land.
Inspired by actual events, and based on the novel “The Good Shepherd” by C. S. Forester (The African Queen), Greyhound follows the perilous journey of an Allied convoy of naval ships as they are pursued in the North Atlantic by Nazi U-Boat submarines known as wolf packs.
Hanks stars as the Captain who leads the Allies in the fight. Making the film even more intriguing is that Hanks not only stars but he also wrote the screenplay.
Directed by Aaron Schneider (a cinematographer-turned-director), Greyhound looks to be a throwback war picture from the Golden Age of Hollywood, but rendered on a modern VFX scale.
Co-starring Stephen Graham, Rob Morgan, and Elisabeth Shue, Greyhound is set to open on June 12, 2020 (five weeks after its originally slated date of May 8).
