Throughout the fall film festival circuit, universal raves have followed Marriage Story and its two lead performances by Adam Driver and Scarlett Johansson. Written and directed by Noah Baumbach (The Squid and the Whale, The Meyerowitz Stories, Frances Ha), it follows the breakup of a husband and wife who are on opposite coasts, with a son caught in the middle. Baumbach’s approach has been praised as well, choosing empathy and tenderness over melodramatic pyrotechnics.
I’m personally so psyched for this film — one of the most anticipated of the Awards Season — that I haven’t even watched the final trailer (above) because I want to enter the story as fresh as I can. But if you want to get a better idea of what all the buzz is about, have a watch.
Co-starring Laura Dern, Adam Driver, and Ray Liotta, the Netflix production begins its limited theatrical run on November 6, 2019. A month later, Marriage Story makes its Netflix debut on December 6th.
