GEMINI MAN (Movie Review)

** out of ****
Rated PG-13
(for violence and action throughout, and brief strong language)
Released: October 11, 2019
Runtime: 117 minutes
Directed by: Ang Lee
Starring: Will Smith, Mary Elizabeth Winstead, Clive Owen, Benedict Wong, Ralph Brown

My review of Gemini Man, for The Tulsa Voice. Will Smith stars (and plays both roles) as an aging government hitman who’s being hunted down by a younger clone of himself. From Academy Award-winning director Ang Lee (Brokeback Mountain, Life of Pi), it’s his latest venture to be filmed in digital High Frame Rate 120 frames-per-second. (Traditionally, movies have been shot at 24 fps.)

A review excerpt:

Gemini Man is “a stilted, lifeless time-waster, despite Ang Lee experimenting with digital technologies on the forefront of where the industry appears to be headed, though not necessarily for the better. Regardless, a movie whose whole raison d’être is to advance the medium forward shouldn’t look so cheap.”
