JOJO RABBIT Hops With Hitler In Satire’s Latest Trailer (VIDEO/IMAGES)

Wes Anderson, but goofier.

That’s the tone of Jojo Rabbit, the new political satire from writer/director Taika Waititi (Thor: Ragnarok, Hunt For The Wilderpeople), as seen in this latest trailer.

The premise — of a German boy during World War II who befriends a runaway teenage Jewish girl while also having Adolf Hitler as his imaginary friend — has had people both intrigued and concerned, wondering how (or if) Waititi could walk the tightrope of comedy without being offensive in the wrong way. This trailer should alleviate any lingering concerns as it teases a movie that knows how to send-up The Führer without trivializing his genocidal ideology.

Starring Waititi as the id-Hitler inside the mind of Jojo Betzler (played by newcomer Roman Griffin Davis), the ensemble also includes Scarlett Johansson as Jojo’s mother Rosie and Thomasin McKenzie (Leave No Trace) as the Jewish girl Elsa, plus Sam Rockwell, Rebel Wilson, and Stephen Merchant as members of the Nazi party.

Jojo Rabbit opens on October 18, 2019.
