The Joker origin movie — which has received an R rating, per expectation — will have its second trailer premiere this Wednesday, August 28. To build anticipation for the latest sneak peak, Warner Bros. has dropped six clip snippets onto the film’s Instagram account. (See below, along with image gallery.)
They’re essentially mood setters, and they fall in-line with the “descent into madness” premise that this unique stand alone feature is taking. Director Todd Phillips has said this will be a completely fresh and original take on the character, not based on any existing Batman comics storylines or part of any DC universe movie. It does, however, draw strong inspiration from executive producer Martin Scorsese‘s The King of Comedy and Taxi Driver.
Starring Joaquin Phoenix as Arthur Fleck, the failing stand-up comic who turns into the evil Clown Prince, and Robert De Niro as a late night talk show host (who’s featured in the first of the six clips), Joker opens on October 4, 2019.
