It seemed odd that Pixar’s one movie for 2020, titled Onward, would be released in the spring rather than the summer or holidays. Now we know why:
It’s not their only movie for 2020.
In a surprise tweet, Pixar Animation Studios revealed a heretofore secret feature-length movie called Soul, one that will be released exactly one year to the day of the announcement.
The tweet teases the ambitious premise as follows:
- One year from today, Pixar Animation Studios will take you on a journey from the streets of New York City to the cosmic realms to discover the answers to life’s most important questions.
You know, your average kids movie.
Deadline also reported the official tag line:
- “Ever wonder where your passion, your dreams and your interests come from? What is it that makes you… YOU?”
Directed by Pete Docter (Up, Inside Out), no cast list has been released.
Soul opens next year on June 19, 2020.
