The live-action Disney remakes keep coming, and now we’re even into sequel territory with some.
Alice Through The Looking Glass was a dud, but the Mouse House is hoping for better with Maleficent: Mistress of Evil, the sequel to the Angelina Jolie-led Maleficent, an effort thatproved to be a popular hit if not full-blown blockbuster.
Picking up a few years after where the last one left off, Mistress of Evil continues the Wicked-izing of the Sleeping Beauty narrative, creating sympathy for its devil. Jolie returns in the title role along with Elle Fanning as Princess Auroa. Joining them is Michelle Pfeiffer as the corrupt Queen Ingrith.
From director Joachim Rønning (2017’s Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales) and screenwriter Linda Woolverton (co-writer of the original The Lion King and live-action Beauty and the Beast), Maleficent: Mistress of Evil opens this fall on October 18, 2019.
