DARK PHOENIX Rises In New X-Sequel Trailer (VIDEO)

Jean Grey and the Disorder of the Phoenix. That Potter paraphrase is basically what we’re in for with Dark Phoenix, the latest chapter in the X-Men franchise.

The new film — which underwent a reshoot overhaul and saw its release delayed for over a year — takes a turn to focus squarely on Jean Grey as the titular character, even as it continues to advance the core X-Men movie mythology.

The opening moments of this official trailer (following last fall’s initial teaser) promise what could be a tour de force from Sophie Turner (Game of Thrones), along with a new look at Jessica Chastain‘s mysterious villain (simply known as Smith), acting like a serpent in the Garden tempting Jean (aka Dark Phoenix) to embrace a power and knowledge that she can’t control.

Still set in the 1990s as an X-Men:Apocalypse follow-up, the series’ ensemble regulars also return, including James McAvoy as Charles Xavier, Michael Fassbender as Magneto, and Jennifer Lawrence as Mystique.

From longtime X-Men writer/producer Simon Kinberg in his directorial debut, Dark Phoenix opens on June 7, 2019.
