They’re not bad either.
And they’re fine.
Displaying the kind of high dollar gloss of Hollywood mediocrity, these images don’t inspire much — either awe or anger. The real first test for how this might play will come with an official trailer, one that shows the characters and actual action. All we got from that CGI-laden tease in October was a confirmation that this “live action” will largely be digitally animated.
Which may lead to the point of these photos: showing actors on sets, on location (including in footage from a new video promo embedded into the EW article), in a world that’s actually real.
But for now, even if these images don’t thrill you, let’s at least be glad they’re not disasters.
That depends on your perspective, of course. On cue, the Twittersphere is throwing all kinds of shade, as one would expect.
